He graduated with a Master of Education in counseling psychology with an emphasis in intercultural counseling and family therapy from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver British Columbia Canada in 1993.

Since graduating in 1993, John has continued his education through workshop trainings and national and international conferences on a variety of therapeutic approaches, including Emotionally Focused Therapy, John and Julie Gottman couples therapy, Dan Hughes attachment therapy, Janina Fischer Sensory Motor Therapy, Brain Spotting therapy, EMDR therapy, Mindfulness-based therapy, psychodynamic therapy, Morita Therapy (Japanese based therapy), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Reality therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Experiential, psycho-drama, and Existential therapy.

John believes training with a particular knowledge base has enriched his understanding of the nature of couples, groups, and individuals looking to overcome suffering, or trying to heal and recover. While he appreciates each one of these approaches he has gravitated to some more than others in assisting people struggling and in pain.

John Beck Licensed Professional Counselor

John was born in Denver, Colorado and spent the majority of his growing up high in the mountains in a small town named Frisco, Colorado where he learned to appreciate nature and mountains. Growing up in the mountains he learned to hike, camp, fish, hunt, ski, backpack, raft, ice skate, and snowshoe along with other activities like picking wild mushrooms and berries.

In the middle 1990s, John put a pause in his counseling career to help his brother build a log house above Breckenridge, Colorado. At 11,400 feet above sea level, most days in the winter started with shoveling one inch to three feet of snow before house construction actually started.

John naturally has an adventurous spirit. Spending time touring other countries and cultures, mostly in Asia, Western and Central Europe, and Ecuador, was an important part of his learning. On three different trips, after saving money from a career in counseling, John traveled for just under three years, living with local families and sometimes teaching conversational English.

John believes his early experiences in nature, as well as his travels in different cultures, helped him to develop curiosity and seek a genuine understanding of human nature. These experiences continue to shape and guide his professional and personal life.
